Since getting hitched in May, we haven't been able to bring any of our new gifts up, because we have nowhere to put anything. We eat dinner at the coffee table, only 1 cook in the kitchen at a time, two of us barely fit comfortably on the couch laying down, etc. Point being: it's time for a grown up apartment. Our search, or course, started in Manhattan, but we quickly realized the prices were getting higher, but the apartments weren't really getting bigger. There was nothing worth moving for in our budget. Thus, we ventured out to Brooklyn to an area we recently discovered called Ditmas Park. While parts of the neighborhood are very charming with gorgeous sprawling Victorian homes and grass yards, you will find elements of the city life only a few blocks away. The negative is that there are also some not so nice areas nearby as well. I guess that is just Brooklyn for ya. The biggest upside is that we are going to be paying the same amount of rent per month, and we are getting a place that is 3x the size! A two bedroom with sunroom, big living room, and big kitchen. We can keep our city lifestyle, but enough space in our home to remind us of the 'burbs we once lived in in Maryland. Our close friend is helping us decorate, and I think it's going to turn out really nice once we are finally settled in.
I'm a little nervous about leaving my current 'hood. We are much further from our friends in the city, my commute to work has double, and I will miss our favorite neighborhood spots. But we are excited for the space and the attitude that Brooklyn has to offer. We can also now host more of our best friends from P.L.O.W.W. to come visit all at the same time! :-) Here's to a new chapter in our crazy adventures of life!
